Soft

Soft

A Poem by Wynter Ignatius

It was unasked by you
Yet given by me in kind
Something without a cost
Benefit of your pains
If only for you alone

Mildest touch nearly forgotten
Pressure of gentle hands
Temporary reprieve from aches
Unspoken moment so soothing
If only for a short time

Even if this simple giving
I feel alive for a passing
The simplicity of given joy
Purpose brought to empty life
If only for a soft touch

Bold gesture from relative stranger
You still surrender to occasion
Both of us unsure to meaning
More or less subject to discussion
If only to make you laugh

In the time that remains
Close without expectations
Trepidation still between us
Yet I would do this again
If only for your soft smile
