In Search of a Broken Wings

In Search of a Broken Wings

A Poem by Wynter Ignatius
"

I've realized that I too often help the broken at my own expense when they fly away...

"

I find myself constantly searching

All in attempts to heal another

Only to be broken a bit myself

Damaged by actions not my own

Never meant to cause me harm

Yet I hurt from these broken wings

Birds that are looking to heal

Guise of chosen self-harm

Repetition of chaos their vice

Prerogative to play the victim

My empathy sees through it

Putting energies into their aid

Bringing them up at a small cost

Loss of self married to sympathies

Yet I endeavor to heal broken wings

Only to watch the bird fly away

Distant gratitude keeps door open

Back to the origin their injury

Knowing safety is waiting here

Willing to sacrifice again and again

Knowing the search never ends

Yet I'm there for inevitable return

Waiting despite the run around

Losing a bit of myself in turn

Every time making simple amends

To be left with but dirty feathers

Mess clean all my own

Not seeing the pain in my eyes

Yet I silently watch it all

This all duplicated at nauseam

Pulling apart the healer

Just to see a smile of joy

Not tied to indecency or offence

All to fly away with regard

Back when the need is great

With broken wings to mend

From the one man whom

Won’t break you in the first place
