The SwitchA Poem by Wynter IgnatiusSometimes we all wish for a switch for things in our lives that don't exist.I can't turn emotion off I can's turn emotions on Perpetual state of flux Whims in full control Heart beats change the switch To different tune on my radio I can't feel nothing I can't feel everything Figuring right for wrong This ill-fated flip-flop Shadow boxing the better self Mental controls only an illusion I can't get any closer I can't just walk away Timid reflection of stone Armor is stripped to bare Caution leads to heartfelt thought Absence of contact blurs all lines I can't just shut down I can't turn myself on Justifications are just words Compassion is often one-way Juxtaposition the blind resolve sought When tears don't sting my eyes true I can't talk about it I can't stop talking Killing time begets pride Sorrow laced with ego Beauty found in the rough and broken Idiosyncrasies soup du jour to this soul I can't ease the pain I can't cause any more Hell bent aiding others Sanity lost in payment Wanting not wound of the adored Passion unrivaled in hearts so close I can't leave it alone I can't gets so involved Pain beckons the immutable Happiness in a quick caress Many timeless wonders lost tomorrow Repeated heartache the course so chosen
