Acumen

Acumen

A Poem by Wynter Ignatius
"

Not sure what sparked this any more.

"
Hands stretched out
Across miles and miles
Smile seen only in thought
Change muted and cold

Trials and tribulations
Conquered over last year
Still I hold you quite dear
Sacrifices metered and bold

All in all wonderful times
No palace, no rooms of gold
More worth found within
A battered yet beaten frame

Pain and sadness never leave
Learned from then moved past
A simple gesture, an ear open
Able to put the pieces together again

Intimacy without a single touch
Far better than the few before
Those that would say one thing
Only to reverse course suddenly

Not flustered by it all
Greater goal still with purpose
Giving more than most any would
Deserved by the jagged history of you

Just as Icarus was fated
To lofty the whole has become
Laurels make poor rest stops
Words can lift only so long

Stabbing deep, a pain inside
Not familiar as wounds of old
Hope for so much not of mine
Mass still crushing, tight and unrelenting

Engrossed in words unspoken
Reading between the lines you wrote
Finish line moved further away now
Stumbling a bit despite intentions

Shadows creep in, cross my mind
Dark energies alive and hungry
To feast upon impending sorrows
Unsure of my direction again

No blade pierces my body
Lest I placed it by my own hand
Echoes of my past stab true
Sharpened over time by my neglect

Weather this storm I will
Fare unseen, but course still laid
Connections made still precious
Smiles etched into memory

To be free of this tepid dream
Not as daunting as it seems
To choose which demons perish
Lesser of two evils nested inside

Choose not for my own
Choose for your own path ahead
At least I got respectful response
Warning to a potential demise

Time flows on, life still prevails
Emotion rarely change over time
Barricades exist, blocking progress
Tomorrow is but another day

It sounds like a breakup poem, albeit with much more skill than your typical breakup poem. Anyway, it's quite good.
