StringsA Poem by Wynter IgnatiusAnother poem about my ex-girlfriend that I wrote a few years back.I had not yet severed the cords To the betrothed I already had Yet I felt my heart strings move The day I first met you We became close friends Like the strings of a guitar Different in tone yet Compliment to one another Then my strings were cut My betrothed no longer desired The company we had kept My heart strings slowly moved your way Another took my mind off you Not to tie me down But more like tuning a guitar Both you had betrothed strung to you Then your cords were cut so sudden Strings severed by friend Quickly the two strung up together You came knowing my heart strings were close at hand You grabbed on quick to those cords Tied my heart up like a marionette Playing a faint tune on the strings Like a harp just kept warm enough to play Always the puppeteer You kept the knots on you side Loose or set to slip with a single pull To make it easier to drop me lifeless to the floor
Your cuts to the cords started Years before with a sharp slice Without remorse or replacement of broken strings A guitar lessened in notes yet we played on So now I am trying to tie to another Already feel the knots forming Not so easily will these be undone Even if the strings are so new
