Mirror Shield

Mirror Shield

A Poem by Wunderlich
"

When I talk to people I don't really want to talk to, I feign interest and repeat what they're saying to me as if I'm paying attention and actually know/care what they're talking about.

"
Smiles adorn this face with deceit
Laughs erupt in stuttered succession
As synthetic replicas of authenticity
These words are bathed in pyritic interest
Beckoning for more but begging to stop

To sound involved this tongue flicks reflections
Spitting shards of glass through the air
Sending the message back to voracious ears
That swallow them in thoughtless cannibalism
Their familiar taste lost in ravenous narcissism
