Forgotten FacesA Poem by WunderlichI'm pretty sure I wrote this after watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. You don't need to watch that anime to understand this piece, but I just figured I'd tell you all my initial inspiration.
I wish you were here today - to see everything
That I have done in your name - you are my inspiration My empire shall rise to the Heavens An Earthly drill pushing its way in Transcending its mortal state of decay Eternally woven into culture and faith I wish you were here today - to see how things have changed We are no longer a struggling state - we are a sky-held flame But as I stand at the window in my chamber, I watch my people walk by The streets are cluttered I remember when we were small Struggling, but strong Our people were never forced to sleep on the streets We had jobs and farms and plenty of places to sleep I remember when you were in charge A burning flame, a blazing star But now you are gone And I can no longer remember your face Your voice, your scent, not even the smack of your hand And in this instance the wind kicks through the window Erasing the glowing flame atop the candle on the frame The tears on my face dry in the dying breeze My heart ceases to bleed, my spirit is lost under leaves of forgotten memories © 2010 Wunderlich |
