Vitamin D

Vitamin D

A Poem by Wunderlich
"

D is for Dilaudid.

"

This world of mine
Is red inside
A land in draught
The calming blue sea
Just out of reach

This desert tries
To wait for the tide
Dehydration ebbs
The calming blue sea
Just within reach

Seasick on land
My legs give way
I drop to my knees
And empty everything
Slipping under the surface
I cannot swim
Caught on the ocean floor
The water recedes
I open my eyes
Underneath the blooming sun
I wait for the ground to crack
The plants to dry, the animals to die
To cry for another fat tide
For just one spoonful
I lay in wait
Hating how I plead
For another shot of Vitamin D

I'm glad poetry is subjective because I found part of myself here.
