Crawling Hearts

Crawling Hearts

A Poem by Wunderlich
"

Woke up and wrote this.

"

Let's wait for the leaves to change
And the wind to blow those tears away
I'm sorry my shirt is so very plain
Solid colors are never exciting

Your heart is so warm and inviting
In contrast to my taciturn soul
This disparity cracks my pericardium
My heart is no longer suspended

Now the trees saunter with their colors
They stand proud and show off their life
Within the wooden knots maggots cry
You said no even though I've been there for you every time

Every tear that's ever fallen from your face
Has found refuge in my foolish embrace
Now I must try my very best to walk away
As your poison rushes through my veins

I fall into the season
Happy and willing
I may actually smile
I feel the autumn warmth
But in the distance
I hear you crying
I look at the beauty
Of what's around me
I wait for the darkness
That is you to arrive
Waiting for it to end
For this beauty to disintegrate
