Retracted Light

Retracted Light

A Poem by Wunderlich
"

Wrote the first stanza, along with the first two lines of the second stanza, a while ago. Wrote the rest in like five minutes just now. Yup :D

"

Light retracted like a violent tide
Leaving my soul buried in the sand
Pieces corroded and drawn away
Into the ocean's arms, now I die

Ghostly flesh left behind
Color washed away with my soul
A negative of a negative
Was there ever a positive?

Eyes stretched in desperation
No light to stimulate them
This hole is hollow
There is no dirt to fill it

Words fall from my tongue
Fearfully grasping at my lips
Dropping to the dusty floor
Light and lacking substance
A feather from a dead bird
A sigh in a hurricane
As carrion, here I lay

Nice piece. I like how it leaves me subtly confused...much as I would be in the absence of light.
