Dear Santa, Where's My Answer?A Poem by WunderlichSomething I wrote for Flame DM's "Dear Santa" contest.Dear Santa, Ever since I finally opened my eyes and my mind
I've been wondering if you're truly alive
A simple response to this letter would solidify
My dwindling faith in the decency of the human race
But I'm not quite sure if you can salvage me
Depression and apathy riddle me like HIV
I'm a cynic and I admit it, there's no denying this
Within the purest of souls there's the darkest of black holes
Where the snow stretches for miles on an eternal plane
There is only a house and a workshop in this beautiful place
St. Nick, how often do you check up on the elves' progress
Or inspect their non-existant welfare, it's not fair
I know the world's a b***h, this is obviously apparent
In the wars that we rage spawned by ignorance and hatred
I just don't understand how you give away presents
To everybody else while your elves live in hell
Working every single day of the year, their fingers sliced
Splintered and broken like their will to survive
While you warm yourself by the fire with your loving wife
How can I respect a man who's caused this kind of life
The concept of giving away presents for free
Sounds great and wonderful but there's one thing
When people don't have to work they get lazy
And eventually society starts disintegrating
Thank you for actually reading this entire letter
If you're even alive, or maybe this is burning in a fire
Helping to warm freezing hands in this vicious winter
In the end I just hope things only get better
P.S. Santa, can I have double-layered sweater?
