What About Your Children, Johnny Boy?

What About Your Children, Johnny Boy?

A Poem by Wunderlich
"

I wrote this when I heard about John Edward's affair.

"

Where will she go?
This poison we've heard about
Simply grows

Swelling deep within
The body, the soul, the mind
What will we do
When she leaves us behind?

Is all we have to rely on
Someone whom she couldn't even trust?
So many years
More than we can imagine
She's remained faithful
But he decided not to

Now we're left looking at
Skin stretched too thin
Hair falling out
And eyes that wane
Waxed over like a melting candlestick
Caught by the venomous flame

When she departs
When she boards her final ferry
When she waves goodbye
Will stability be lost forever?

Her bones tire
Her soul begins to flake
A whisp of a woman
Whom we cannot replace
Yet he thinks we can
With this shadowy wraith
I don't understand what's happening
But Mother, I don't like it

Knocked down to the mental capacity
Of someone who is much younger than I
I cannot begin to grasp
What kind of emotions clench their hearts
All I can do
Is stare in wonderment
How can such a man stand in public?
A plastic mask with a painted smile
A grubbing demon in the shadows
All I can do is realize what may lie ahead for the children
And all I feel is hatred brewing

I don't think I can understand without a more intimate understanding of John Edwards.
