Loved One's Memory

Memorial Day poem

 

Solemn and still in peaceful repose

In devoted tribute they are laced

Tokens of respect and reverence

For a loved one’s memory placed

 

Unto our lives they were a part

They lived and loved and shared

We take a moment to honor them

And show them that we cared

 

As simple as a single rose

Or bouquets of blossoms gay

We place a flower at their stone

To remember them this day

 

And to our fallen hero’s

A flag will proudly wave

So the world knows that they served

A resting place for the Brave

I'm in awe. in admiration. and yes, even jealous. Memorial day for you, Americans, is such a big event. I've heard so many of you say "Happy Memorial Day!". poets and writers would write long and heart-felt pieces glorifying those who've given their lives for your country. for you, it's such a big day. I applaud you for that.
let me tell you how it is, in my country. we, too, have a similar day. we call it Martyr Day. flags are unfurled all over the country. special programmes and panels are aired on all the TV channels to talk about and remember those whose blood has irrigated the soil of Tunisia. and it is a holiday so no school, no work and that's the only thing that makes people happy that day. NO WORK! you'd never hear anyone say: happy Martyr Day. That's why I'm jealous.

Very moving poem Trace, on this day people should reflect on what it means to be free and how many died to keep the war 'there', far from home.

Trace, A gentle reminder that Memorial Day is more than family barbeque's and a day at the beach. This is a lovely tribute to our heros as well as a day to thank heros like you that are still with us. Thank you my dear friend, with great respect and admiration.
