The Best ScareA Story by Writingfox " If someone says you are crazy and you deny it perhaps you are the crazy one, not the person that laughs and says I know." -Diane G. Piercing shrieks, darkness, fright. What is our obsession with morbidity and fear? Such titles as Halloween, The Walking Dead, The Shining. They all are the embodiment of what one fears. Death is personified in such characters as Michael and Jason. We are "civilized", sane, normal but we love these hours of film for the feelings they evoke in our souls. We think ourselves terribly brave for "Daring the nightmare". One of the best horror authors/directors of our time, Stephen King, knew this best. Perhaps those who believe themselves normal and sane give release to that monster deep inside, the very depravity that the ax murderers on television exhibit. Or does it feed the monster to "keep the gators fed." No you say? "No, I just like to be scared, its fun!" Have you ever asked yourself why? Why is the fright and unsettling emotions "fun" for you? Next time you are watching the movie analyze yourself. If you dare. Perhaps that would be the true ultimate thrill. Happy Halloween everyone. Thanks to Diane G. and Richard Bachman for quotes and inspiration.
