I opened my eyesA Poem by Hannah JocksBeing selfish and wanting and not realizing you have it good and others are more grateful for what they have than you and they are less fortunate than you!I opened my eyes to see terror Families having trouble wiping there tears I sat awake at night thinking of all the things I want and don’t
have Then my eyes were opened My eyes were opened to the terror I do not face I do not face starvation I do not face abuse My life is good, my life is great I opened my eyes to terror And then realized I shall pray for those Those who are having trouble wiping their tears My selfishness is no longer a problem My eyes are open Opened to witness the terror Opened to realize my life is good, my life is great And I shall not want nor need no more I opened my eyes to see terror Did I not realize their pain How could I not see that I was selfish They were grateful for what they had Though they had nothing, they were grateful And I was wanting more, more and more Now I see This isn’t how it should be I am grateful My eyes are open Open to see the terror © 2012 Hannah JocksAuthor's Note
