Regret

The regret of not having made a deeper connection with someone.

Regret looks like soft eyes 

that I never got to stare at 

for long enough,

a smile that I never grew 

to admire for more than a few seconds 

before averting my gaze,

a voice that I only heard on occasion,

but never dared to stay around long enough 

to continue to allow it to flow 

into my eardrums, 

a touch that I only ever got 

by being luckily saved by his embrace, 

and a soul that I never thought would depart,

leaving me haunted by never taking a chance.
