Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Erin

You rode away unwillingly,

You looked back and saw me cry.

Tears of pride my father said.

But he had no clue,

That I was crying

Because I missed you.

When the men came riding back,

Coming from the war

That told me that you were shot,

At that my heart was sore.

Off I went that night to see you,

I rushed up to your house.

I was shocked to see

A mother in the kitchen,

A father in his chair,

And two girls by the fire,

Braiding one another hair.

I could not believe it!

You told me you loved me!

That I was your pride and joy.

I wanted to end you.

But I still loved you.

I cannot end the one I love.

Only one way to go.

I will love you.

I will.

Forever.
