Childhood Memories

Childhood Memories

A Poem by Erin

A rainy day and foggy glass reveal the memories you didn’t remember.

The fuzzy blanket and the mug of hot chocolate.

A kiss on the cheek and the scratch on your knee.

Laughter on his face and that song that she’d sing.

Climbing into their bed as he checked under the bed and inside of the closet.

Licking the bowl clean of the last drop of batter.

Pulling the sled up the hill again and zipping your coat up.

Checking your temperature and playing doctor all night.

A picture in a frame made by a child’s hands reveal the tears you said never would come.

A rainy day and foggy glass reveal the memories you never recalled.

Tear-stains on your face, no one will wipe them away.

God gave you the finest, the best that He had.

You gave back their souls but you’re keeping their lives.
