Butterfinger

Butterfinger

A Chapter by DaydreamingAngel~
"

Not only did the flower of romance wilter, but now Drew's life aswell...

"

Drew’s break from collage was over. Luckily, the day he went back was the last day before the holidays. Unfortunately, Candy went to a different collage and the last day had a math’s test scheduled. Drew’s alarm clock didn’t ring and he woke up in a panic, he was late. Rushing madly, fast as a speeding cheetah he jumped out of bed, forgot to brush his teeth and dressed casually, forgetting to put on his uniform instead.  There was no time to fix up a bowl of cereal, let alone his usual cooked breakfasts. In a rush he grabbed a Butterfinger and only just caught the bus. Relived, he wiped the sweat and the panic away and un-wrapped the Butterfinger. He nibbled some of it but he was troubled. Eating Candy made him think of the angel that made his love for sweets larger. Tears filled his eyes and he wrapped it up again as well as he could and put it in his bag. He was really wearing his heart on his sleeve... Then he heard whisperers, all the glossy gossipy girls we’re pointing and then whispering.

“What’s up with that guy?” one rudely remarked

“He’s making a scene! This will be great gossip for the school newspaper!” one laughed

Unfortunately for poor Drew one of those girls was a newspaper editor! She had picked all this up and took out a notepad and began making notes. Not only had Drew’s relationship with Candy wilted but his life felt like it too, only worse. More like it had wilted, burned, and the left other cinders thrown away.

“Cry baby!” the boy next to him snorted. That boy pulled super sticky bubble gum out of his mouth and threw it into Drew’s hair.

“Why does the world hate me?” Drew thought and that only made things worse.

Drew tried to pull it out but it seemed to be stuck like glue. The bus pulled up at the collage. He went into the math room and took his seat. The tests were handed out and Drew began to bite his nails as he picked up his pen in his spare hand. The tension made his hands covered in so much sweat the pen kept sipping from his grasp. He was trying to think about the questions but he felt possessed and hopeless. All he could think about was Candy. His focus was flying away like a bird, and his concentration slipping away like an ice cube on a hot palm. Soon it felt like all hope was lost. With Candy the only thing on his mind, he began scrawling down random answers. Her figure was haunting him, stuck to him almost. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t think of anything else. Even if he could, the image would pop back like an elastic band. Before he knew it, he was done. But he had failed for sure. No doubt about that.

“Your time is over students! You will receive your results after break.” The teacher announced. Drew got up but was quite literally trampled by a heard of rushing teenagers

“I don’t feel like a human being anymore! I feel like a can that just keeps getting trodden on and will eventually break into millions of pieces due to the damage!” Drew thought. Break seemed to last forever. Since Candy had been Drew’s only friend he was sitting there, alone...

When his re- entered the math room he had failed his test. A big fat red F was stamped on his page, absolutely no answers right. He was forced to retake the test. When home time came Drew was as happy as a kid with a new toy. Finally, The Holidays were here! But his self-esteem was soon chopped up like a knife to food. Every week the school news paper was handed out. When he read it, he was all over the front page.

“Why, Why me?” he groaned and covered his face with his hands as everyone pointed and laughed. When he reached home he ate the Butterfinger and the snickers bar in attempt to cheer himself up. But the only thing that would cheer him up now, was Candy’s love and some respect from others...
