Maiden Warrior

Three centuries before held a mysterious maiden

Rustling trees through eerie silence overhead

Escaping the clutches of guards who followed

Caught between lives of royalty and the free

 

Climbed down the castle's walls she went

Covered in peasant attire and a worn face

She runs through the borders to a forest of black

Trips over a log and falls to the ground

 

Yelling and screaming she hears the intruders

Dim fire far away is seen through the distance

Trampling feet thumping through the night

She lies quite still beneath the leaves

 

Holding only a bow with arrows to survive

She clutches her cloak to her chest in despair

Screams of loved ones breaks the veil

A fire burns in her eyes of fierceness

 

Clashing of swords of knights and enemies

Small earthquakes of horses falling to their demise

Cannons pierce the sky and time stands still

Destroying the barrier of a home she once knew

 

Time to fight for her land and her people

Bravery engulfs and consumes her soul

Running throughout the trees and flames ahead

Her life as a simple girl was brought to an end

A well written poem about the fighting spirit of a maiden, though it ends in a tragic way. "Cannons pierce the sky and time stands still, Destroying the barrier of a home she once knew" - i really could picture this in my mind. I enjoyed reading the poem.

Interesting anecdote as if the poem was part of a much larger body of work. The poem leaves one with desire to know more.
