She'd Never...

She'd Never...

A Poem by WritersBlock21

She'd never tell you how she's obsessed with roses.

Because they remind her of her grandparents

And that's why she has two blooming roses on her ankle.

She'd never mention dancing when no one was home,

Because it's her only time she feels free.

She'd never even let it slip that she cried the whole way here,

Because she couldn't hold it together any more.

And you wouldn't even know she was,

Because her smile fooled you into thinking she was fine.

She might tell you the story of that green ribbon on her left hip.

Because you're tracing it with a single finger
And she can't help the truth as it pours out of her pink lipped mouth,

Twisting a tale about a time in her life when there was love.

Not romance,

But the love between her parents.

Because she's secretly letting you know she never wants to be hurt like her mom was.

So you smile and laugh as she goes on about her dad joking about how she's growing up,

And how her mom watched him leave to go to the bar across the street.

How that was one of the best nights of her life,

Because of the simplicity.

So you'll never know these little things about her and that's okay.

Because what you have now is enough.

The rest will come later.

But she'll never mention any of this to you if she thinks you'll leave.
