A Night Away from Life

A Night Away from Life

A Poem by WritersBlock21

What's funny is that I dislike smoking,

But the right amount of whiskey

And the perfect sunset on a backyard porch have me craving.

The only thing I enjoy besides the scenery is the smell.

It reminds me of home while the colored leaves of fall are picked up by a slight breeze.

And so I take a drag and act like I'm in the 20's

Because my friends do the same in their drunken state.

I'm only buzzed,

The smell of vodka turns me off completely,

While it is equal to water for them.

We're just a rag tag bunch of misfits enjoying the company of one another.

So we breath in rolled up death

And drink poison from fancy bottles all in the name of fun.

Because we're young and messed up from our pasts.

With dead parents, loveless homes and all around madness.

This is our one night of freedom where nothing can touch us,

Except hugs and innocent caresses while dancing.

Maybe I lied when I said I dislike smoking,

Because I only smoke on a night like this

Where everything seems so far away from reality.

Where everything seems special.
