You Remember Hell

You Remember Hell

A Poem by WritersBlock21

Sometimes you forget how cruel the world is.

Not because you're in a good place at the moment,

But because it just slips your mind.

You block out the memories of war and hate.

Of violence and anger.

You forget because the child you once were is fighting to be remembered.

You forget because it's better than the alternative.

It's better than knowing how evil the world truly is.

When you remember though,

God does it hurt.

It doesn't hurt you physically,

But emotionally.

You feel like a child again and think to yourself,

"Why? Why would someone do this to another person?"

No one really knows the answer.

Children are the ones who will ask

Because they have no reason to believe violence is necessary.

They are sheltered for so many years that when reality hits,

It hurts.

It hurts to know that this is the world we live in.

We are hurt because other people are hurting.

So maybe sometimes it is better to forget the Hell we are so used to seeing.

On other days, days like today.

Maybe it's better to remember it all.

Remember it all and make something great with it.

This is so very powerful and emotional. The world unfortunately is filled with hate, or at least that is what is brought to our attention constantly, but somewhere out there is the good and we only need to find it. Your poem offers to take the hate and make some good of it, I would gladly join with you if I knew how. Just trying to be a good person sometimes doesn't seem enough. Very well done.
