Those Christmas LightsA Poem by WritersBlock21Have you ever noticed how tragedy can bring people closer? I've noticed it within my family. I never thought it was possible, But my parents divorce did just that. We've all been talking more, Even having family dinners. Yes, my mom still hates my dad. That's expected. But we're all closer in some way. I don't know if it's the cold weather Or some unknown force at work, Either way I like it. Five months and the feeling warms me. It feels like the holidays when I was little. When we'd all sit around before the aunts and uncles came, Watching the Christmas lights with wonder. Trying to figure out how little twinkling colors could make us so content. It's the little things we do now that make me feel five again. When we eat dinner I am that five year old, Letting my mind wonder and watching those Christmas lights. I know exactly where they are placed every year. If I close my eyes I can set the scene perfectly. If I close my eyes nothing bad can happen around Christmas. © 2013 WritersBlock21Reviews
