For a Little Girl

For a Little Girl

A Poem by WritersBlock21

Baby girl
Small, curious bundle swaddled in pink.
I never thought I'd enjoy the company of any child.
You drew me in,
Made me think of a five year old you.
Blonde hair and blue eyes dancing around with me.
Someone I can teach and watch grow up
Like they did for me.

Anna
Such a simple name.
Anoushka is what I call you around the others.
Chickadee is our secret nickname.
That's what you are.
Small, chirping chicklet
With a bubbly personality.
You will be beautiful.

I won't tell you that though.
You shouldn't grow up thinking like that.
You should know you're mind is much more beautiful
Because not everyone will be able to see inside it.
She will raise you on that and I will help.
Raising you on looks will make you weak.
Will make you want the simpler things,
With a beautiful mind you can reach the moon.

Baby girl
Anna
Anoushka
Chickadee
I can't wait to watch you grow.

It's astonishing to figure out what thoughts and emotions a small bundle like a child are able to bring us. The first time I saw my little sister the day she got home from the hospital, I was afraid to hold her, afraid to get myself attached because I felt I didn't want her to end up following in my footsteps or even wanting to look up to me like I was someone special to guide her. Thanks to her, I do what I can to help myself a little bit everyday, to change for the better, to go in a better direction in life.
