A Common Misconception

A Common Misconception

A Poem by WritersBlock21

I'm not ready to forgive you.
I'm trying but four months is too soon.
You didn't just break her heart when you left,
You broke all three of ours.

I invited you to a concert,
That's a start for me.
This is a step closer to what we used to be.
We were friends,
Not just a father and daughter.

Like I said I'm trying but it's so hard.
It's hard thinking about what you did,
Everytime I look into your eyes.
I see that trashy, self conceded woman
That calls you every night.
I think about the future and how different it will be.

I can't even imagine what it will be like on my wedding day.
I can imagine we won't be dancing to the last waltz,
Like you dreamed we would.
Why should I let you have your dream,
When you destroyed my image of the future?

I'm not sorry you have to wait.
Forgiving is easier than forgetting.
It might take a long time,
But at least I'm making an effort.
