Chapter 11

Chapter 11

A Chapter by WriterGirl101

I came to, lying on the cold ground. At first I believed that I was in the nightmare forest, but as I got up, I realized I was in a graveyard Vincent brought me to. I stood, looking to my left, and there I saw my body. Vincent was standing over it.

I walked over to them (us?) and looked. Vincent was slapping my face, begging me to awaken. I turn again hearing steps behind me.

“We can do this until you die, dear Rosaline.”

“Why can’t you take the hint? I will not join you so soon!”

“But you must. Time is running out. You must take my place.”

“Take your place? You said that I’d join you!”

Death sighed. It sounded like leaves blowing in the wind. “All will be explained, if you would just touch my hand. It will not change you, I swear it.” Again he held out his bony hand to me. Wearily, I clutched the cold bones. ‘Gasp!’

We were no longer in the graveyard. I was in my fathers’ car. I was in the back watching everything. Suddenly a car burst out from the left, causing our car to topple and roll. My fathers’ head hit the steering wheel. I knew at that instant that he died on impact. ‘Or was it just wishful thinking? Was I dreaming?’ After a few minutes, the car stopped rolling. We were on the other side of the road upside down.

A split second later, we were both standing beside the ambulance. I could see my mother, sister, and I huddled together crying. Dad was trying to comfort us, but we couldn’t see him.

After that faded out, we were in the woods. The same ones I’ve been dreaming of. Dad was talking to Death. Suddenly there was a glow coming from father and a flash. My dad was the new Grim Reaper.

The images then died away and I was back to reality. Or whatever you would call this. I looked at Death. “So, what does this mean? How do I know any of that was real?” Death sighed again, obviously annoyed.

Seconds later, I was back in my body, gasping. I looked up at Vincent and he smiled, relieved. “You know, you’ve really got to stop doing that. Maybe you should go to the doctor about it.” He told me.

I laughed. If only a doctor could control this. Vincent smiled, but when he looked up behind me, the smile instantly dropped. I turned to look. Death was standing directly behind me. I jumped, falling into Vincent’s arms.

Then it dawned on me.

“You can see him too?” I asked. I felt him nod his head, and I couldn’t help but feel a contented kind of feeling. Eventually, Vincent let me go and rushed at the angel. He pulled back his hood, and Death stood there allowing it. I knew what he wanted. He wanted me to know that this is real; and I did. My father truly was the angel of Death.

“Daddy.” I couldn’t help but moan. I fell to my knees, weeping. After Vincent finished his inspection, he fell back towards me and stood in an almost protective stance. Death then began to speak.

“Finally my daughter believes. Now, may you please join me?” Death asked.

“Daughter? What the hell do you mean ‘daughter’?” Vincent asked, looking between the two of us.

“I’ll explain everything later; and to you, Death. No, I will not join you now. At least tell me how long I have.”

“Two weeks.” Came the reply.

I nodded. “Then let me have these two weeks to myself. Let me live my life, then, and only then, will I join you, or replace you, or whatever.”

“Very well.” Death agreed and disappeared.

“What do you mean you will ‘join him’?” Vincent asked turning to me. “What is this thing?” I sighed and then started explaining everything from the dreams, to the visits, and finally the vision from earlier. I told Vincent I didn’t believe until Death had showed himself to him. He listened the whole time until I’d finished. “You don’t have to join him though.” He said when I was done.

“Yes, I feel like I do. I mean, I want to.”

“But why?”

“I, I don’t know. I just know I need to do it.”

“You’re talking about throwing your life away and becoming one of them?”

“Yes.” I said, and then I walked away. Hopefully this wouldn’t be the last I saw him.
