Chapter 11 soul

“All right. Ready, set… go!” I shot forward, not even glancing back at the fast retreating forms of my competitors . My name is Soul, I am 7 years old, and I am adopted. My parents died in a fire when I was 2. I was very fast for my age, or for any age. I was already 50 feet ahead of the main body of racers. Soon, I settled into the familiar rhythm of my footsteps eating up the track in front of me. Thud thud thud thud…. Without even breaking a sweat, I put on a final burst of speed towards the finish line. Now for the hurdles. The first one done, then the second, but as I jumped over the third, I knew something was wrong even before it happened. My foot caught on the final hurdle, sending me sprawling on the asphalt. I heard two snap in quick succession even before I blacked out even before I felt the pain.
