I walked down the hill, trying to enjoy my surroundings, but failing miserably. Swoosh, swoosh went the pine needles, blending into itself to form a constant shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I walked across the field, the yellowed grass going down under my feet without a sound. While crossing the road, a drop of sweat fell to the asphalt, making a sizzling sound.
Suddenly, I heard noise in the trees, desperate cries and a roaring unlike any I’d heard before. Rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat. What was it? It sounded like a fight. Should I call the police? No they could get hurt. I doubted this would be a danger to me. Walking swiftly back up the path, I try to be quiet. After a couple minutes of walking, I see them. Men in dark suits and helmets, hexanite soldiers. Not a single patch of skin is exposed, apparently to protect them from fire. Everyone thought they were crazy, their sole goal was to kill dragons. But was the roar from- a giant black lizard, 40 feet long came smashing through the trees, splintering them like match sticks. Shouting, the soldiers jumped back, firing their guns at the scaly beast. One soldier got torn up by a spike propelled by a seemingly accidental swipe of the dragon's tale. Another was smushed under its foot. Jumping back, I ran.

As I sprinted away, abandoning all pretense of human speed, two things hit me. I was not the only mythical creature, Dragons were real! and a bullet. It struck me right in the arm. Growling, I yanked it out, slowing to a fast walk as new skin grew, filling the hole in my arm.
Slightly shocked, I hurried took a long back route to me fort house. Quickly, I strode through the large double door and into my room. Grabbing my computer, I logged on, tapping my fingers impatiently for it to load. Going onto google maps, I found what I was looking for. The nearest hexanite base. Sprinting out again, I jogged out.

The reception was bare, very militaresque. A young man sat at a desk on the far side of the room. Striding over to him I drew in a breath.
Without looking up he said “How can I help you?”
“I want to join” I informed him.
Looking up with a surprised expression he said “You know this is hexanite?”
Looking him in the eye I said “Yes”
“Well,” he eyed me with suspicion “WHy should I let you join?” So you can prove your not a monster, my mind said. But no, he wouldn’t understand that. I was at a loss for words. I’d thought they’ed want everyone they could get because everyone thought they were crazy. I had not expected to have to give a reason ‘why’. A door on the far left of the room slid open silently.
“Let him join, Theval. He has it” we both looked at him surprised. A flash of fear shot through me. Did he know? Or was it something else?
“Oh, yes sir” said Theval.
“Come this way” said, um
“What's your name?” asked.
“You can call me Colonel, or sir”

On the and was at the bus stop, A cheap plastic overhang to protect waiting bus riders from the elements, some benches for an obvious purpose, and graffiti on the walls. As I waited for the bus, it started to drizzle, so light, it was almost a mist, a welcome source of heat contro. My feet clanged against the metal steps on the bus, I walked to the back, and sat down. “Derick” the colonel acknowledged me. The bus was clear except for soldiers, The rest of the seats had been purchased, and the driver was a soldier as well. Each one of us had a backpack, filled with our ammo, weapons, and armor. I should have been excited, this was like a real life excerpt of the coolest video game ever. But I wasn’t excited. I was scared. We were about to do something big. People would die. And I would be part of it. After getting off the bus, we walked through the woods. And that’s when it started.
