Closed Book

Closed Book

A Poem by WriterMe
"

Everyone wants someone to pick them up and read them...

"

They say you were like a closed book.

You were a thick, leather bound book, dusty and your jacket worn.

They say you were a heavy book and very hard to open, but also hard to read.

You’re pages were so thin, and yellowed with time, one was afraid to hold you for the fear the paper might crumble between their fingers.

And if they did, the words written within you were so faded, that letters couldn’t be read. But despite that, they said you wanted someone to make an effort to read those words.

They said you wanted someone to pick you off the shelf and read you. You wanted someone to flip your pages and read the light calligraphy no matter how incomprehensible you were. You wanted someone to read you chapter by chapter, till the last page.

But you’re old outward appearance and you delicate, pale pages turned everyone’s head away from wanting to read you. So they left you untouched, closed and alone.

You grew accustomed to the loneliness didn’t you? You were used to the fact that people would hardly look at you, or pick you up, leaf through a few pages only to put you back down with disinterest.

You were used to the fact that no one wanted to read your story and actually liking the journey of knowing you. At one point, you preferred your jacket covered with the settling dust of days and months of being untouched. You preferred it if no one would touch your pages and make an effort to read you.

At one point, you did not want to be read anymore.

They say you’re like a closed book.

You were a thick leather bound book, dusty and your jacket worn.

They say you were a heavy book and very hard to open, but also hard to read.

But I want to read you.

All the way to the last page.

Yes the monologue type sentences were made on purpose. I some how felt this piece shouldnt really be filled in so much. I wanted to give it a spacey feel. I hope you could relate to it =]

I can relate for sure. I think everyone wants to feel important and appreciated. Everyone wants to be cared about by someone. It's frustrating when you try to tell someone about your life and it's like talking to a wall. :p

Nice piece though. Good use of metaphor, or simile, or whatever it is. :P I enjoyed reading it. :)
