She
walked timidly into the dorm room. The four bare concrete walls were chipped
and reeked of mold. The twin beds looked equally questionable. But she was
here. She had made it. First in her family to go to college. She was excited
and terrified at the same time. Her life as she knew it was over. No more
sleepovers, no more fun on the playground. The Barbies went into the closet.
Her parents couldn’t fix everything anymore. She was on her own. She took a
breath. That chapter of life had ended.
And this was where the next began.
