Part One
Captured
I pulled at the shackles that bound me and yelled
out, “You cowards!! Come out and show
yourselves!!” I screamed out furiously
and pulled again and then I sank down to the floor, defeated.
I raised my head when I heard footsteps coming
towards me and then the door to my cell opened and in walked a man shrouded in black.
“Well, don’t you look great!” Said the man in
black.
I bitterly laughed, “Thanks, means a lot to me,
you know.”
He knelt down next to me and said, seriously,
“I’m here to free you, but you have to cooperate.”
I immediately straightened and said, “How’d you
get keys?”
He smiled, “I have my ways.”
Then he leaned forward and took out a key and
unlocked the shackles on my feet. Then
he went for the ones on my wrists and I caught a faint scent, one that smelled
of cinnamon and mints. It smelled quite
nice actually.
I whispered, “Why are you helping me?”
He unlocked all my shackles then looked into my
eyes and replied, “I have my reasons.”
Then he pulled me up and grabbed my hand then
said, “You must listen to everything I say if we are to get out safely. The guards are all asleep but not for
long. So, hurry.”
I nodded and he pulled me to the door and we
hurriedly walked down the long corridor.
I looked around and I could smell dirt, sweat, and mold. Sickening.
I’m going to skip the boring parts, because,
honestly, like he said, all the
guards were asleep! We got out of the
hideout without any trouble whatsoever.
Once we were far away, until we could no longer
see it, he let go of my hand and I leaned against a tree, exhausted.
He looked around and said, “Well, that was easier
than I thought.”
“You said it.”
Then I looked down at my stomach as it growled then I looked at him and
said, “I’m hungry.”
He sighed then sat down next to me and said,
“Sorry, didn’t bring any food with me.
Oh, by the way, my name is Nicholai and I know you, you’re Ivy. The much hunted Ivy.”
“You make it sound like it’s something to be
proud of. Well, it’s not, I’ll tell you.” She paused as she looked around then said, “You
heard of me but I haven’t heard of you.”
He slowly smiled, “I’m much more subtle.” With that he turned away and laid down on the
ground and closed his eyes.
Well, good night to you, as well, she
thought. She sighed and took that moment
to study him. He was handsome. Very, very... ok, FINE! He was freaking drop-dead gorgeous. He had wavy, midnight-black hair and piercing
gray eyes, eyes that seemed to know everything about her. He was going to be trouble, that she knew.
She sighed and closed her eyes and drifted off to
sleep, the last thing she heard was a deep, gravelly voice growling, “You’re
finally mine, sweetheart.” But she
thought nothing of it as she drifted off.

Nick sat up and took a deep breath through his
mouth, and realized it only made him hungrier for her. Her scent was everywhere; the scent of an
innocent, absolutely priceless. He
growled softly and stared at her. She
was beautiful, no doubt about it. Her
hair was fiery red with the edges a light blonde-orange-ish color. The colors of fire. Her eyes were emerald green and he felt like
just staring at them all day.
He didn’t know how he was going to survive this,
this whole smelling her and not being able to devour her. How would it be possible? How could he live through this? Then he thought suddenly, why should he? He could just tell everyone that they had
killed her before he got to her and...
He shook his head and thought, no, he needed her to live. If only for his fiance. He laid back down and tried to fall back
asleep, he would need his rest.

She woke to a noise of something sizzling and the
smell of something delicious. She stood
up immediately and practically ran to the fire and looked at the piece of meat
sizzling in a pan. She could’ve sworn
she was drooling.
She heard footsteps behind her and she turned
around and found Nicholai. She grinned
and ran to him and hugged him and said, “You made food! I love you so much right now! I didn’t know you could hunt and oh my gosh
that smells so good and I don’t know if there’s enough for you and I’m so
hungry and I haven’t eaten-“
“Dang!
Take a breath! Calm down! Yes, I made food and if you want it so much,
you can have it. I already ate.” He pulled off her hands and stepped back from
her, but that didn’t faze her one bit.
“Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!” She paused and then wondered, “What type of
meat is it?”
He sat down on a log next to the small fire and
checked the meat, “It’s wild boar.”
“Hm, never tried it. Oh well.”
She sat down next to him as he put the meat into a iron plate and handed
her a eating utensil. She decided to not
be a pig and quietly ate for a few minutes then asked him, “So, will you tell
me about yourself? How old are you? Where are you from? Who are you?
What are you? Are you going to
eat me? Personally, I don’t fancy being
eaten but-“
“Wow! Do
you always talk this much! Which
question am I supposed to answer first?”
He answered with a slightly amused laugh.
“Who are you?”
“I already told you, I’m Nicholai. I’m from far away, a place you wouldn’t
know. I’m too old for you. What am I?”
He paused there then chuckled darkly, “I am, what you’d call, your worst nightmare. Are you done eating?”
She stared at him, open-eyed, “Are you a
vampire?!”
He laughed and shook his head, “Hell no! I’m not one of those disgusting
creatures! If I told you what I was...
if you consider those vampires scary, I hate to tell you but, vampires are
scared out of their wits when it comes to us.
We are not something to be taken lightly, Ivy. What I am is not something you’d want to know. Now finish eating as we have a ways to go.”
She didn’t reply for a few moments then she asked
quietly, “Are you going to kill me?”
He scrutinized her then replied, “It depends on
how you look at it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean!”
“Well on one hand, yes, it could be considered
cold-blooded murder. Then, on the other
hand, not really.” He shrugged, “It
depends on who you are and your values.
Personally, to me, it’s not exactly murder. Honestly, I rescued you from the vampires
murdering you! At least, this way, you
get to have more of a life before you meet your fate.”
“Is that supposed to help?! All my life, people just show up and want to
kill me! I’ve never known who I can
trust... and... I thought you were actually someone I could trust... and...” She started to cry softly and she whispered,
“If you’re going to kill me, on the way, can I see my brother? Just one last time? For a final goodbye. If you let me, I won’t put up a fight...
please.” She wiped away her tears and
straightened her back and decided that she was going to be strong, not weak...
just this once.
He had to admit it, the tears slightly threw him
off. It made her so... vulnerable. She was begging him and her wish didn’t seem
too bad. “Very well. Where is he?
What is his name?”
She looked down at her food which had long gone
cold, “Ashton Grace. I don’t know where
he is... they took him away from me and never told me where he was only that he
was married and very happy. Can we find
him?”
He paused and said, “Yes, I just need help from
some of my friends. We’ll find them and
your brother on the way. Are you ready
to go?”
She set down her plate and stood up and
nodded. He grabbed her hand but she
pulled it away and said, “I can walk on my own.”
“Well, I’m sorry but your ‘walking on your own’
is much too slow.”
She threw her hands up and said, “You bruised my
wrists and they still hurt! No thank
you!”
“Oh, well, I’m sorry, princess! What do you want me to do? Carry you!?”
She pondered for a second then lifted her arms
again and said, “Could you? My legs
hurt...”
He glared at her and said, “I’m only doing this
so we can get going but don’t think you won, not even for a second...”
He lifted her up, bridal style then that seemed a
bit too intimate so he adjusted her until she was on his back, piggy-back
style. Her arms tightened for a second,
as if she wanted to choke him then she loosened her arms and rested her head on
his shoulder. He asked, over his
shoulder, “Ready to go?”
She said, “Yes.”
And he raced off.
