Smile Until Death

Smile Until Death

A Poem by

You’re never gonna sing alone,

You’re never gonna be on your own.

God don’t take her away,

She’s my hearts allay.

Catch her breath,

She doesn't belong to death.

Don’t let her die,

I give my life for her to survive.

I kiss her swollen scars.

Trapping her love in bars.

Our story’s written in the stars.

Our song plays on guitars.

I’m left alone,

I sing on my own.

God left her to death,

She smiled until her last breath.

This is great and moving. I like the way the second half flows especially. It is sad, but not sappy. It feels true. A good writer may draw from personal experience or might alternately just make up a perspective, and I find both are equally likely to produce great poetry. If this was a real experience for you, I am sorry you had that pain, but if you just took that perspective you did a great job. Either way, this was a beautiful expression of that sentiment. Well done!
