~ The Spider in Us

Doomed we all are...

There is just no way back,

It crawls in all of us, and eats us alive.

From our civil little cortex,

To the richer brain of history,

From a trillion years back, it speaks

To us, “to all of us” till now;

And yet, there is a cure,

A little one to keep so close;

A crawling cure, for sure;

A facing  fact, one but not to weep;

To love the eight-legged lover,

The paramour, of life, that deep,

Be ready to live and give your fear;

To the real black hairy creep

Ah... There's something about spiders that just... I don't know, make me all twitchy. Very well written and fun little piece. The picture compliments the creepiness as well. I also caught a little hint of double meaning as well, something about the human condition as being the thing that creeps. I don't know, all I know is that you have peaked my interest once again Elisa. Thanks, and keep it up! -J.L

Thank you for your thoughts.
To love the eight-legged lover,
The paramour, of life, that deep,
Be ready to live and give your fear;
To the real black hairy creep

She is our creativity and intelligence. Do her honour. Great, great write.

Thank you Pryde for such a wonderful insight yet again ;) ^^
I came to this after reading on your profile of the tragedy with your loved one... So here I am thinking of the preciousness of the mind, and how, like a spiders legs and feelers, this mind reaches across so many ethers, into real and unreal spaces, to find its own versions of reality...
And there is something here, the wording or mood perhaps, that makes me think of Sylvia Plath-- Ariel and Lady Lazarath...
Mysterious and yet right there, on the tip of my tongue, a brush on the edge of my mind, the richness and meaning of this... Delicious, dear Elisa!

What a wonderful poem. Did you ever read Charlotte's Web when you were little? Charlotte wrote on her spider web a message for a little pig. The message said 'I love you, Wilbur.' We have an innate fear of spiders as a human race so must remind ourselves 'to love the eight-legged lover'

That was a wickedly fun poem… I thing our fears and regrets and the spiders in us that tangle our emotions in their webs till we are paralyzed and devoured.

I'm completely and totally freaked out. Spiders do that. This is elegant and well written, but super freaky.

Okay, E, there are two things in this life that scare the heck out of me...one is those nasty freaking eight legged monstrosities, that I swear were put on this earth to torture me.... the other...well that is for another conversation. lol Oh and that image!!! So wrong...just wrong. hahah. The words you spilled though, so right! What an awesome display of horror mixed with musing .. really had me shivering. Good work!
