~ Her Deer

Twelve long days, she lived in his sanctuary

          The nights were days full of summer love;

Warm evenings they danced by the light of the

          Cooling moon, she was their guide,

But when the day came in sight, they burned away;

           And the trip was heavier than ever,

Slowly as their bodies repeated to dust and ashes,

            At each step they took, through this winter beauty

Where her heart like a lump of ice, has been glued

            To his, when they touched the frozen fields;

Free from sorrow, he was in the spring ragweed

             The snow was melting, by his warmth,

                       Observing her fall of heart,

The dead brains branched, barren by their loss,

              The leaves where so discolored;

But his tender creature, his dear soul,

               Could accept her how she was;

And he trusted the stars above him;

             When he saw her, all enlightened, in the sky

He knew time was just a phase,

And gave her one last look, and so he left, skittish,

             Leaving his footprints in the snow.

He was her deer ...

There's a chapter in one of my favourite books that describes the idea of being careful when it comes to getting close to someone - it should be treated like a wild deer. If you make any bold moves or too much risk you'll only startle it off, so you need to be really still and let them get used to you being around and gentle let the trust build. It's based on being comfortable with someone and as someone, like myself, who is difficult to get to know properly - I relate to the concept 'deerly' (see what I did there?)

This poem reminded me of that idea and so it triggered some nice feelings - thanks for that. :) Another awesome write.

Love is patient and kind. Sometimes we need to provide each-other space, in order to sustain balance. As you put it, time is just a phase, it will pass, and an honest love will remain despite the length of the pause. The woman shall return to her deer/dear one, in time, and they are both aware. The trust between them and their acceptance of each-other's needs are important factors. What's portrayed here is not a farewell, for winter does not last forever, and summer will come again. Beautiful :)

Always welcome good friend -xx- :)
Each word so captivating, drew me in from the beginning. My mind which was so tangled with my far away thoughts were suddenly showing me the images that your poem gave. How you ended it was so well done:
''He was her deer ...''
It leaves ones mind thinking.

Well written and good choice of words,this has deep meanings which I got almost immediately. Really good wright loved the way you got the image :) and for what its worth his deer is so special but I would want him to care for the deer instead of leaving. But that's what I want,nothing is ever easy life is so unfair. All and all well done Elisa :)

You are really something Elise, the way you put down words, it's so catching, beautiful, and it somehow stops you from leaving the poem half-read. You have to read it, read it, and then finally re-read it again :D
