~ The Amulet of Calcite

It was like I lived anew, in a second world

On that day I found back this special orange colored

Amulet made of calcite,  designed with small

French lilies in this silverware formed necklace…

It was exactly the same, as when I saw it for the last time

The world of history ever  spoke to me I remembered

When  I was a child,  I found it before,

It gave me flashbacks, of something still vivid in mind.

It was pure magic, once I wore it, it let me fly

I did lost it for years, not knowing grandmother

Had hidden it in this old antique  wooden “Japara” box

But now I found it back again… so I lay down on my bed,

I closed my eyes, and followed the world of memories

I saw my past life,  moving in fragments,  on Java Island

Flashes  of old photos and faces,  sunsets, and people

Who walked on sandy roads, with old bicycles in their hand

Large green tropical rice fields, around them…

Many white clothes people wore,

Palms, and papaya trees, and a sepia gleaming hue

Of these fragments, so vividly in mind...

The amulet had something to tell me, I was sure of it

Then I woke up, grandmother took it from my neck…

She said, it was dangerous to wear it,

I couldn’t no more enjoy my roots…

It was taken from me, she found it long ago

On a sea wreck, once made by the Europeans,

It had brought them to Europe finally,

She never spoke a word about it, it was such a taboo

I saw it was painful for her, to see me have it around my neck,

But with a half blood the spell maybe worked?

At least that I found out, I was there, I escaped, into my past…

Nobody would ever explain me a thing about it,

I never found it back again…  I wonder though,

Maybe it carried many hidden secrets with it,

Grandmother had kept it somewhere safe right now,

I could not do anything else then accept the fact,

I lost it all… I wonder if I will find it back once more…

So I can complete what I always have been missed…

So the amulet does have much to say, and speaks according to who wears it and what they need to know. For your grandmother it spoke of painful things that she did not want to know, but perhaps it was what she needed to know. And for you, it spoke of a place where you had been before and needed to remember. Still, the memories are in you, but little things like an amulet can be reminders. And many other things can be reminders too; so many of those other things you have already written about... so many more you will discover. Thanks for sharing a delightful memory!

Great story telling. This did justice in the realm of getting the message across. Great message. There's lot of times where a story can have a great message to aim for, and have a lot of under lining things but then no one gets it, and if no one gets it, then the point has failed. But in my opinion this did well to get the message across. You made it clear, which is why I think it's good. Keep up the good work. What was also great was that I could imagine the story as I read it, and that is also a strong point of stories. The ability to have the reader imagine it because after all we're reading not watching it, but it was as if I was there as I read this, and that is great. Good job once again.

My mind was drawn in from the start as if I walked into an old antique shop and I was browsing around and I came across this fine amulet.. your words just place the subject into the palm of the readers hand and it's so calming the feeling of being taken on a wonderful journey of imagination. There's power in your words hun! This must have been a personal write for you as I see you've carved your roots into this poem. I wish I could find an amulet that would help me escape, to a better place. I loved this piece, its very personal, touching and magical. Your biggest fan - Kee.

Thank you too for your time, and review, appreciated... :)
SO magical amulet and story! for me the past was always so important for us, as it`s part of the what we call "future", the gem stone really can keep secrets of the past life and energy of the person, who it belong to...I believe in that, and I`m sure that anything we have lost will come to us one day, no matter when or in what form...
I feel all the atmosphere around this amulet...
