Born This Way

Born This Way

A Poem by

Inspired in part by Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' and my own personal beliefs. Screw being politically correct. This is my opinion, in poetry form, unedited.

For all creators and gods

There are books and scrolls.

In some, we are nothing but sinners,

Doomed unless we redeem our souls.

In some, we are children bound by rules,

Others, we are meant to simply live and serve.

But what about that paper brick that says

Love is more than gay people deserve?

A woman and a woman,

A man and a man,

Why can't they love one another

When their hearts tell them they can?

Because some paper brick says no,

Because some idiot wrote the verses

That banned true love regardless of sex.

Those lines are nothing but curses.

Why do we let ourselves be governed

By books, written by men and not gods?

Gods would know better about love,

That love helps us defy all odds.

With love, we can lift a one-ton car

Off of our love, child, or friend.

With love, we can vault high walls and run miles

Just to find our family at the end.

With love, we can look past flaws, mistakes and vices,

And see what's really inside regardless of exterior.

With love, we write the most heartening stories and songs.

Love makes even the weakest man superior.

So why can we not love a man if we're men?

Or another lovely lady if we ourselves are so?

Why can't gay, straight, lesbian, transvestite, and bisexual

Live in harmony, loving who we wish as we go?

So this is what I have to say:

A curse on whatever foolish man wrote that line,

A curse on whomever detests lovers

Just because they are two of a kind.

We who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transvestite-

Angry as we are with all the world has done-

Simply want to live in peace and love,

And have our own many days in the sun.

This I tell you now, whether you are offended or not:

Life and love always find a way to survive,

Even if we have to fight for centuries as we have.

We will one day be equal thanks to our drive.

We don't want special rights,

We want the same rights, okay?

We're on the right track, we know,

Because we were Born This Way.

Author's Note

I'm not looking for critique, this is just a protest against anti-LGBT groups and not the Bible itself, just the verse that states that a man may not lay with another man.
