An old maid

An old maid

A Poem by

Sixty years of experience behind glazed eyes,
wrinkled skin , a frame frail , bent and thin ,
rough lips , that muffled so many wanting sighs ,
her sense of duty stands erect within.

Moving around the house with an angry mutter ,
how she has had enough of this scene ,
dirty laundry , utensils all in a clutter ,
but my tablecloth never ceases to be clean.

It's so easy for us to think the older generation sit serene and fulfilled. But there is a lifetime of memories. The nicest thing is to sit and listen to them. 'My tablecloth never ceases to be clean'... this is a wonderful ending to the poem Abhijit. My grandmother is 93 next week. Her eyes don't let her see the odd stain here and there on her carpet anymore. And we wouldn't dream of telling her.

It reminds me so much of my grandmother.. She did the exact same things and yet the tablecloth was always just so perfect lol.. We couldn't touch it.. Great write:) x
