St. Anna

St. Anna

A Poem by
"

based off of the real events in st. anna during world war II

"

Day by day I lived my life

I was just an innocent boy

without a care in the world

But one day everything changed.

My fellow villager was cruelly killed and hung by a tree

The partisans of that time did not like it

And The Black Butterfly, a now famous partisan, killed the general

the same way the general ordered his men to kill her.

This made the SS angry

and they began to search for the partisan

But when a sign appeared on a church saying

Our village would be protected

The SS came in full force.

My mother told me we had to go to the church to answer questions

but that would not be the case.

When we got there the germans began to to shoot

they began to take people and burn them in a pile

Before the madness started my family was taken away by a young german

he told us to run as  fast as we can, but another german found us running

and began to shoot

I watched helplessly as my parents were shot and killed

and I was dragged away by the german who rescued me

560 people died in that fire and shooting

some no older than me

I will never forgive the SS and Hitler for what they did

But that lone german I owe to him nothing less than my life

Author's Note

560 people did die in the St. Anna massacre. The full name of St. Anna is Saint Anna di Stazzema and was an italian town that constantly being taken over by different people. The Black Butterfly was a famous partisan who killed some of the SS. The boy in this story is based off the italian boy's story in the book Miracle at St. Anna. I know this poem might be boring but i didn't feel like writing a history lesson so i did a poem instead.
