We did it; it was done, then

With alarming haste

and immediacy

We flapped our arms bent in from our elbows like wings;

quick, quick, quick to keep ourselves afloat.

Through intense flapping

We would look at each other

Widen our eyes to say,

"Jesus Mother of God!"

while we cracked grins

in our heightened delight.
