Time To Say Goodbye

Setting what you love free is hard - especially when your heart is telling you to do otherwise. This poem is about saying goodbye, even if it's the hardest thing you've ever had to do.

Time To Say Goodbye

 

We're standing in the rain,

and the end is nigh.

There's no more talk of forever,

it's time to say goodbye.

You take my hand in yours,

and your eyes beg me not to go.

It breaks my heart and withers my soul,

but I won't let my emotions show.

I think of who we used to be,

but those people seem long gone.

I did everything to be her again,

in hopes we could carry on.

I tear my flesh from yours,

and with it reclaim my heart.

It's no longer yours to keep,

although you've held it from the start.

You tell me you understand,

you know it has to end.

There's no use fighting it,

no point trying to pretend.

I smile and it's meek,

as if I don't see the lie.

We've loved and we've changed,

it's time to say goodbye.

This is my very first attempt at poetry so please be gentle with me. But I'll be more than thrilled with any constructive criticism anyone would have to offer :)

aww this poem made me want to cry. The line, "I tear my flesh from yours" is so beautiful and contains such powerful imagery. You truly are a gifted writer. I saw on your page that you used to write stories. If you every put any up here, I'd love to read some. Also, I saw you're from Dublin. Very nice. I was born in Navan, myself. Nice to see someone else on here representing Ireland.

haha. The poem is nice. I did felt sad for the characters. People do really change, and we have to accept that change no matter what, though it's for bad or good but hope for good :)
