Hallows Eve

Why was I sent forth on this dark night to the house of that old Grog?

A frightful night for sure it twas, through this forest in this thick fog.

My master said that I must go to retrieve his heart’s desire,

It matters not to him my fear that burns in me like fire!

The moon was full I could scarcely see, thru the fog drenched forest trees!

The air hung thick with an eerie cold that added to my unease!

The howl of jackals struck the air, I know not from whence it came.

Yeah I knew this, if I be found, my bowels would feed these ghoulish feinds.

What’s was that ahead that I then saw thru dense fog and forest trees?

Eyes that burn like flaming coals, my heart pounded would death now seize?

I started to run, trying to escape, that night of hell, on Hallows Eve!

Then I see a clearing up ahead but it twas filled with headstones of the dead,

So I ran faster, as some horror pursued, I turned to see those eyes blood red!

They were closing fast I started to scream; I ran faster and faster so it seemed.

And then I saw this cottage light, was it to be real or just a dream?

As I approached I saw a path that led up to this sanctuary,

My mind was racing, who lived here, friend of foe, I remained so wary!

And then a sign above the door seemed inviting; it named the place.

Rebecca’s Inn, a place to rest? I knocked and waited and held my breath,

As the door began to creek open, the sign above it began to morph,

Rebecca’s Inn became Rebecca’s End, I lost my head and caught my death!
