the wave against the pier

the sound of the ocean

when you hold a shell up

to your ear

He is the muse of inspiration

the heart behind the tear

the strength rooted beneath

the shadow of your fear

He is the stretching of a flower

the pattern in the bark

the last bead of starlight

glittering in the dark

He is the fortune of your virtues

the sword against your sin

the hostage imprisoned by the blood

that you have spilled for him

He is the moral to a story

the justification for the plot

the reason not question

what you have been taught

He can be beautifully represented or

the name behind a war

the cause for you to question

what you're fighting for
