Walking in the Dark

Walking in the Dark

A Poem by Outdated Account
"

Dark paths lead to dark places

"
I took a stroll
On unlit paths.
Dark places
Where no one goes.
Just me
And my shadow,
The one I cast
Over every step
I've ever taken.

At every split
I break the pavement,
No room to regret
Where I cannot go.
I can't say
That I'm better for it,
Just that I did
What I needed
To keep going.

Then the pavement ended,
My path ran out,
Crumbled into the dirt.
Street lamps illuminated,
Shone light
On where I'd been.
Cast out my shadow,
My past,
And made it real.
