ExhaustedA Poem by WordsFromAPen
It starts as an ache
Dull and avoidable Shaking off warning signs Each grunt becomes tiresome Then comes the pain Sharp in the head Behind eyes that strain to focus Each blink like a sandstorm Legs growing heavy As walking feels like a sprint Muscles tights and burning Each step makes me weak Breath is a novelty Escaping my lungs Faster out than in Each gasp a warning Tension looms in my legs Shoulders seize together Head screams for relief Eyes closing for sleep Life demands more Than what this body can cope with Each day is a struggle For the autoimmunity But there's no forgiveness For those who suffer Accused of exaggerating Lazy and unwilling Please let me know When you've plumped my pillow I'm too tired to do so Pull back the cover and drop © 2021 WordsFromAPen |
