A short story, author unknown, inspired me to write this poem.

"God sent a Spider"

On a pacific island during the war

Intense fighting with hellish crossfire

A marine separated from buddies

Was lost and began to perspire

Alone he could hear the enemy

Found a small cave in the hills

Safe, soon will be found and killed

He prayed "Lord send survival skills "

"I'm not going to get the help

Lord this time it's very grave"

As He's sees a spider build a web

Over the opening of his cave

Enemies closer he sees their feet

He prays " I need a brick wall

Not a spider weaving a web

Not funny Lord, it is a close call"

They left, the web showed no one was there

He prayed "Lord forgive my faith is so small

I forgot that in you a spider's web

Is stronger than a brick wall"
