Leaving Legacies

Leaving Legacies

A Poem by Joe W
"

This poem is all about leaving a legacy and memories. It helps remind me that although people may be gone, they aren't gone forever.

"
Climbing on the cliffs looking over the sea, I remember all the things that you did with me. Running on the sandy shores of the beach, joy and happiness were never out of reach. Sitting on the roof looking out at all the stars and the moon, I wish you didn't have to leave so soon. I know now that you're in a better place where you can roam wild and free, living as you did on earth so happily. Watching the sunrise or sunset from a mountain top, always cautioning me to beware of the drop. The feeling of being on top of the world with you, I remember all the things we used to do. You said if I just think of you that you will be there, and I'm glad i can always feel your presence near. Although you're gone from this earth the memories live on, and I pray my children will remember me when I'm long gone. I'm wondering what they will remember me, if I were one to leave a great legacy. I want people to look at my life and want to emulate me, So I hope that I leave one hell of a legacy. Some people end up rich all there lives and then dying with no one around, no one to mourn for them when their 6 feet underground. Some people have nothing all of their lives and die poor, but at least they have people who seem to care a little more. Then there are people who die before it's really their time to go, and it seems like it's those people we wish we could know. They were growing up on the path to success and then it was all taken away, left behind for someone else some other day. As you continue to live life please keep this in mind, just think of what kind of legacy you're going to leave behind. I hope that if you are rich or if you are poor you become an inspiration to those around you, not only in your words but your actions and everything that you do. That's the kind of legacy I hope to leave after I'm long gone and deceased, I pray that my love will never have decreased. For love is one of the greatest gifts that we can give while we are here on earth, so count each day a blessing to a person's death from their birth.

make every day count.. so when it comes down to it, you have those memories to go back to. I believe that that is what keeps us going as humans. life sucks, its hard and full of heartache and loss, but it seems to be the need to keep those good memories alive and living- that keep us going.. thoughtful write..

You have a wonderful message here. I kind of wish you formatted it into the style of a poem though - just personal preference. Sometimes it makes it easier to read and feel the rhythm a bit easier. Great poem though - I really enjoyed it :)
