Creature of the Night

Creature of the Night

A Poem by David Lewis

My time is fleeting why can't you see,
The unspeakable is coming for me.
I look up at the moon just for a while,
All the while feeling so vile.

My body shivers and my eyes grow dark,
It's nearly time to embark.
I can no longer hold this form,
For therein lies an inward storm.

Its slumbers over its presence known,
It lets out a sickening moan.
I glance at the mirror and see a beast,
Who I don't recognize in the least.

It prowls the streets and ravages the lands,
For this beast has no other plans.
My victims screams echo in the night,
I toy with the ones that try to fight.

Clawing and biting as I please,
Immobilizing my prey as they struggle to their knees.
In my bloody frenzy I grin,
Oh how delicious it is to sin.

Morning finds its way here,
I come to my senses full of fear.
Oh the things I have done,
Panic sets in and I begin to run.

A trail of blood leads to my door,
I take a deep breath and see what's in store.
Contorted bodies decorate my home,
I lick my lips which just now began to foam.
