The Hex

The Hex

A Poem by David Lewis

There is a hex upon the human soul,
Which turns our greatest gifts to coal.
It has smothered these lands with deceit,
And trying to cleanse it is no easy feat.

We're enwrapped in crooked policies,
Hearing our leaders false prophecies.
Taught to mindlessly listen and obey,
While the greed of men has its day.

Governed by dirty old folk,
This entire structure is one big joke.
I want to go to a better place,
One in which man has kept his grace.

I never took to the program,
Everything is just one big sham.
What we do with our day is an act,
Polluted with delusion and very little fact.

In such a system I have lost my way,
I didn't sign up for this terribly acted play.
Where in this world is the humanity,
Everyone has lost their frigging sanity.

You're just another brick in the wall,
A stumbling citizen waiting to fall.
As a whole we're lost in despair,
Not knowing where to place our care.

A world divided by lines unseen,
Streets littered with the words of the unclean.
In orbit but spinning out of control,
Seven billion people that I must console.
