The Princess in the Tower

The Princess in the Tower

A Poem by David Lewis

Oh princess in the highest tower,
You're guarded by a dragon that will devour.
While I am but a broken knight,
The endeavor of saving you does excite.

So now I pick up sword and shield,
And march across this forsaken field.
I take the roads less traveled by,
The journey takes me far and high.

I make my way to your castle,
And let me tell you it was quite the hassle.
Fear grips me with every step I take,
But I must do this for our sake.

I see the dragon fierce as could be,
It advises me to bow down and plea.
I take up arms and strike a blow,
As the blizzard inside me begins to grow.

The creature lashes with all its might,
But I will not give up this fight.
I call upon all I know,
To strike down this deadly foe.

I pierce its heart with my blade,
Now the dragon begins to fade.
His life fleeting before my hands,
He no longer rules these lands.

Running up the tower I see a light,
This must be the end of my plight.
I open the door and behold your form,
Butterflies within me begin to swarm.

Princess we're free to be,
No longer are you imprisoned by he.
Take my hand and let's make way,
For this is our glorious day.
